The inspiration behind our
Agua Santa™ Mexican Lager
was born from our hard-working brewers who work tirelessly to create the best liquid possible. For years they have been making beers that have been in demand from our customers, working long hours to execute their craft. When they would finish their shift, they would gravitate towards a crisp lager that would reward them for a hard day’s work and would not weigh them down. In 2014, I asked our Head Brewer and Creative Director Kevin Ashford to develop a full-flavored beer that brewers would long for at the end of their day, he went to the drawing board and created a fully decocted, six-week Mexican Lager. Best described in Spanish as “Sabor sin Sacrificio”, “Flavor without Sacrifice.”

The name Agua Santa™ means
“Holy Water.”
Our intention is that the liquid in your glass, or can, is not only sacred, but it brings a sense of relief and connection to one’s happiness. Beer is a social liquid, meant to be shared with those you care about, but it is also a gift that can bring a gentle pause and appreciation for what is most important in life. Life is tough enough, so why not treat yourself to something special, something created just for you, your own “Holy Water”. Whether you enjoy after work, after a long hike, or at home with the those you love, Agua Santa™ has been crafted to meet your expectations.

This Mexican-Inspired Lager is best defined by the word
“crisp.”
Both dry and refreshing, Agua Santa™ is made from high quality pilsner malt, flaked maize, and noble hops. Agua Santa™ is a brilliant pale straw color with the subtle aroma of floral meadows and a hint of sweet corn. So, call up your friends, get the barbeque fired up, Y ¡Prepárate para relajarte, Salud!

Q. What’s your current position at your brewery, and how did you get started in the craft brewing industry?

A. I am head brewer/creative director at Figueroa Mountain’s four breweries in California. I got my start in 2009 at Heavy Seas Beer in Baltimore, Md. (my home). It was a great start to my career.

Q. What’s new at Figueroa Mountain?

A. A significant expansion at our production facility [in Buellton, Calif.]. We added a 60-bbl BrauKon brewhouse along with a new packaging hall and several tanks/hard piping lines. A new line of cans and of course our new Agua Santa package!

Q. What’s the best part of being a part of the craft brewing community?

A. It is just that: community! It’s amazing to see our craft beer community lend a hand when times are tough. I truly feel it is one of the only industries where your competition is your ally. We have so much to learn from one another.

Q. Name a favorite food and beer pairing.

A. Wow, this is tough. Buttered pretzel and Helles lager¦cheese and IPA¦pizza and Vienna lager¦I give up!

Q. What’s your biggest accomplishment unrelated to your job?

A. Graduating from college during a pretty hard time in my life.

Q. What’s your favorite beer that your brewery does not produce?

A. Augustiner-Brau Edelstoff. No doubt.

Q. What’s the most memorable travel destination at which you’ve had a chance to sample the local beer?

A. Germany and Austria. There is a different feeling about the beer there. The history is rich and great beer is an effortless thing. I love visiting any time I can.
